The hearing of the substantive appeals in the ongoing University of Ibadan International School, Ibadan (UI–ISI) hijab case was on Tuesday adjourned by the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan until Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Oyo State Chapter, following proceedings at the appellate court.

According to the group, the substantive hearing could not proceed during Tuesday’s sitting due to multiple pending applications before the court in the various appeal files connected to the matter.

MURIC stated that the court entertained arguments on all pending applications except an application filed by the 1st Respondent challenging the competence of the Notice and Brief of Argument filed by the 5th and 6th Respondents in the appeals.

The organisation explained that after listening to submissions from counsel representing the parties, the court directed that the application filed by the 1st Respondent would be heard alongside the substantive appeals.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to Thursday, May 21, 2026, for the hearing of the substantive appeals as well as the outstanding application.

Reacting to the development, the Oyo State chapter of MURIC expressed confidence in the judicial process and reiterated its commitment to the protection of the constitutional rights of Muslim students.

The group maintained that willing Muslim students should be allowed to practise their religion freely, including the use of hijab in educational institutions.

MURIC also appealed to members of the Muslim community and supporters of the case to remain calm, peaceful, steadfast, and prayerful as the legal proceedings continue.

The statement was signed by Amb. Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, General Secretary of MURIC, Oyo State Chapter.
