A social media post by Nigerian commentator Jimoh Noah Onaolapo has generated widespread reactions online after he criticised what he described as societal double standards in reactions to adultery involving men and women.

In the viral Facebook post, Onaolapo referenced the recent controversy surrounding Nigerian singer Chike and businessman Frank, alleging that many Nigerians were quick to condemn the woman involved while often excusing similar behaviour by married men.

The commentator argued that Nigerian society frequently overlooks cases where married men engage in affairs with younger women or other people’s wives, but reacts more harshly when women are accused of similar conduct.

According to him, phrases such as “men are polygamous in nature” and “men are wired differently” are often used to justify infidelity by men, while women involved in adultery are publicly criticised and shamed.

Onaolapo further accused some social media users and religious commentators of selective morality, noting that adultery is condemned in religious teachings regardless of gender.

In the post, he cited several Bible passages, including Exodus 20:14, Hebrews 13:4, and Proverbs 6:32, all of which condemn adultery without distinguishing between men and women.

“Adultery na adultery. Man ooo, woman ooo, adultery na bad thing,” he wrote.

The post has since sparked heated conversations across social media platforms, with users divided over issues of morality, gender expectations, infidelity, and societal hypocrisy in relationships and marriage.
