Ikirun College Council Chairman Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Health Education
The Chairman of the Governing Council of Ikirun College of Health Technology, Engr. Mustafa Adeleke Olawuyi, has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening health education and preparing competent, ethical and professionally grounded healthcare workers for Nigeria’s evolving health system.
Olawuyi made the commitment while presiding over the Governing Council’s maiden physical meeting, held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the College Boardroom in Ikirun.
Reflecting on the institution’s development within two years of its establishment, the Council chairman commended its leadership, staff and other stakeholders for the progress recorded in academic programming, infrastructure and institutional administration.
He described the College as an emerging force in health technology education, noting that its growth demonstrates what can be achieved through purposeful leadership, regulatory compliance and sustained investment in professional training.
Olawuyi also drew attention to Nigeria’s shortage of qualified healthcare personnel, stressing that institutions such as Ikirun College of Health Technology have an important role to play in closing workforce gaps and expanding access to essential health services.
According to him, addressing the shortage requires more than increasing enrolment. He said health training institutions must produce graduates who possess the technical competence, ethical discipline, practical experience and commitment to service required to respond effectively to community and national healthcare needs.
“The College has demonstrated remarkable progress within a short period, and we will continue to provide the leadership and support required to sustain this momentum,” Olawuyi said.
He added that the Governing Council would continue working with the management, staff, regulators and other stakeholders to strengthen the institution’s capacity to produce skilled middle-level healthcare professionals capable of contributing meaningfully within Nigeria and beyond.
The meeting was the first physical session of the Governing Council since its inauguration. Deliberations focused on institutional administration, academic development, infrastructure expansion, staff welfare and strategic measures for positioning the College as a leading health technology institution.
Presenting a report to the Council, the Rector, Mr. Salaudeen Oyewale, outlined the College’s academic and infrastructural achievements, including the accreditation of its programmes by the relevant regulatory and professional bodies.
Oyewale said the institution remains committed to practice-based education, continuous curriculum improvement and the provision of modern teaching and learning facilities.
He explained that the College’s approach is designed to ensure that graduates leave with both academic knowledge and the practical capabilities required to function effectively in hospitals, clinics, laboratories and community health settings.
The Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Mr. Abdullahi Adeoye, thanked Council members for their commitment to the institution’s growth.
Adeoye assured the Council that the management would work diligently to implement its resolutions, particularly those aimed at improving administrative efficiency, staff development, academic standards and student learning outcomes.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to sustaining the College’s growth while ensuring that expansion is matched by quality assurance, effective governance and measurable contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare workforce.
Under Olawuyi’s leadership, the Council said it would continue pursuing the institution’s vision of becoming a centre of excellence in health education, professional training and healthcare manpower development.
