The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Al-Imam (Barrister) Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration between religious institutions and security agencies to enhance peace and stability in Oyo State.

The cleric made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Augustine Padonu, at the Command Headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan.

Speaking during the visit, Akeugberu stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between faith-based organisations and security agencies in tackling emerging security challenges. He commended the NSCDC for its role in protecting lives and critical national assets, describing the Corps as a key component of Nigeria’s internal security framework.

The Grand Imam also assured the Command of the Muslim community’s support, particularly in the areas of intelligence sharing, peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution.

In his response, Padonu described the visit as timely and significant, noting that partnerships with religious and community leaders are essential to strengthening grassroots security efforts. He reiterated the Corps’ readiness to deepen engagement with stakeholders to improve security awareness across the state.

The NSCDC commandant further emphasised the need for trust, cooperation and mutual respect in achieving lasting peace, adding that the Corps remains committed to protecting citizens and maintaining law and order.

The visit ended with both parties expressing a shared resolve to build stronger ties in the interest of security and development in Oyo State.
