Grand Chief Imam Visits Oyo CAN Leadership, Advocates Religious Harmony

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Al-Imam (Barrister) Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has paid a historic goodwill visit to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo Zone, calling for sustained peace, unity, and religious harmony among residents of Oyo Land.

The meeting, held in an atmosphere of mutual respect and brotherhood, brought together prominent Christian leaders across the zone under the leadership of the Zonal CAN Chairman, Pastor Amos Kehinde Eguntola.

Speaking during the visit, Sheikh Akeugberu stressed the importance of collaboration between Muslim and Christian leaders in maintaining peace and promoting societal development.

“Islam and Christianity are religions of peace, love, and harmony. Religious leaders must continue to work together to sustain the peaceful atmosphere we enjoy in Oyo Land and beyond,” he said.

The Grand Chief Imam noted that unity among faith leaders would contribute significantly to youth moral development, communal stability, and overall societal growth.

He also expressed appreciation to the CAN leadership for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation.

Responding, the Zonal Chairman of CAN, Pastor Amos Kehinde Eguntola, described the visit as a symbolic and commendable step toward strengthening the long-standing peaceful relationship between Christians and Muslims in Oyo Land.

“This visit reflects the spirit of unity and mutual understanding that should continue to exist among religious groups for the peace and progress of our society,” Pastor Eguntola stated.

He assured the Muslim leadership of CAN’s readiness to continue working with all stakeholders to sustain peace and harmony in the community.

The meeting was attended by several CAN leaders, including Pastor Gbenga Oluokun, Rev. Dr. Peter Ajao, Snr. Sup. Ap. Wale Oyedemi, Gen. Evang. Ebasekore, Rev. Akin Alabi, and Rev. Dr. Idowu David O.

Highlight of the visit included a personal photograph between Sheikh Akeugberu and the CAN Zonal Chairman, alongside a group photograph with CAN Chairmen from various local governments in the zone.

The visit further underscores the commitment of both Muslim and Christian leaders in Oyo Land to promoting peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and unity among all residents regardless of faith.
