Breaking: Olubadan of Ibadan land Dies at 90
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90, just two days after celebrating his birthday.
According to Tribune Online, the revered monarch died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, marking the end of a brief reign that lasted exactly one year.
Oba Olakulehin, born on July 5, 1935, was installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024. He received the staff of office from the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, during a historic coronation ceremony that drew dignitaries from across Nigeria.
His transition comes as a shock to many in Ibadan and beyond, as he had recently marked his 90th birthday in a modest celebration. His short but symbolic tenure as Olubadan was characterized by efforts to preserve tradition and promote unity among the people of Ibadanland.
Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements and succession plans are expected from the Olubadan-in-Council and the Oyo State Government.
