Police Neutralize 4 Kidnappers, Recover 18 Rifles and 192 Live Ammunition in Nationwide Operations

In a renewed offensive against violent crimes, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded major victories in the battle against kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal arms proliferation, with successful operations carried out in Delta and Kano States.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police operatives attached to the Delta State Command, on April 10, 2025, apprehended one Abubakar Usman, also known as “Shehu”, who was identified as the leader of a deadly kidnapping gang.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to several heinous crimes, including the kidnapping of a medical doctor at Issele-Uku, the abduction and murder of Mr. Godwin Anuka’s wife and daughter at Ogwashi-Uku, and the kidnap and murder of Ms. Esther Ojoh at Ibusa.
Acting on his confession, police operatives were led to the gang’s hideout in a forest along the Asaba/Agbor expressway, where they encountered the rest of the gang and came under heavy gunfire. In the intense exchange, four of the gang members were neutralized, and security agents recovered three AK-47 rifles and 90 rounds of live ammunition.
In a separate operation on the same day in Kano State, operatives from the State Command acted on credible intelligence and arrested three individuals—Abdul Sadiq (43), Ahmad Muazu (22), and Aliyu Sharif (40)—at Dorayi Babba.
Further investigations led to the recovery of a significant cache of illegal arms including 15 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 102 live cartridges, and 6 expended cartridges. Police authorities have launched an intensive probe to uncover the illegal arms factory responsible for producing the weapons and to bring all accomplices to justice.
Commending the bravery and professionalism of the operatives, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, stated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to tackling all forms of violent crime.
“The Force has made it a mandate to curb violent crimes that threaten national peace and security,” the IGP reiterated.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining law and order and called on citizens to remain vigilant and cooperative in the collective fight against crime.
