NSCIA Warns Against Fake News Targeting Islam, Sultan of Sokoto

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has issued a strong warning against the spread of false and mischievous information aimed at tarnishing the image of Islam and its leadership in Nigeria.
The Council’s statement comes in response to a viral social media post falsely attributing a controversial remark to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, regarding the alleged agenda to Islamise Nigeria.
The NSCIA dismissed the claim as baseless, unfounded, and malicious, urging Nigerians to be wary of such propaganda.
“This spurious information is not only baseless and unfounded but also malicious. The Sultan, who was purported to have made the statement, has been out of the country for the last two weeks,” the Council stated.
The NSCIA further emphasized that the Muslim community in Nigeria consists of believers from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and it is unimaginable that a revered leader like the Sultan would make such a divisive statement.
While the Council initially hesitated to dignify the perpetrators of the falsehood with a response, it decided to educate the public to prevent mischief-makers from misleading unsuspecting individuals.
“The Council calls on all Nigerians not only to disregard the publication but also to always verify the veracity of any information that comes their way before consuming and/or circulating it,” the statement added.
The NSCIA reaffirmed its commitment to peace and unity in Nigeria, urging all citizens to reject divisive narratives and focus on fostering harmony.
“May Almighty Allah grant us peace and unity in Nigeria.”
The statement was signed by Imam Haroun Muhammad Eze, Esq., Deputy National Legal Adviser, NSCIA.
