FG to Establish CNG Conversion Centres in 20 Tertiary Institutions

In a landmark move towards clean and sustainable energy, the Federal Government, through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) in collaboration with Femadec Energy, is set to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centres and refuelling stations across 20 federal tertiary institutions nationwide.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to affordable, clean, and sustainable energy and is expected to ease transportation costs for students and lecturers while fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability within Nigeria’s academic community.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Tunji Alausa, confirmed the project’s progress after a recent meeting with Vice Chancellors of the selected institutions, executives from Femadec Energy, MDGIF, and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). Discussions focused on finalizing project details to ensure its timely implementation by May 2025.
“As part of the plan, six institutions in each geopolitical zone will have fully operational CNG facilities by the end of May 2025, demonstrating immediate impact and paving the way for broader adoption nationwide,” Alausa stated.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to clean energy transition, providing cost-effective transportation options while integrating CNG infrastructure within educational institutions. The project is expected to serve as a model for sustainable energy adoption in Nigeria’s transport and education sectors.
