Tinubu Names Segun Aina New JAMB Registrar
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with effect from August 1, 2026, following the expiration of the tenure of the current registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The Presidency described Aina as a renowned academic and technology expert with vast experience in examination administration, digital systems management and institutional reform.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina holds degrees from University of Kent and Loughborough University, where he earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate qualifications. He has also undergone executive training at Lagos Business School.
The incoming registrar began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service and later established himself as a leading consultant on examination technology and educational reforms. He has worked with key assessment agencies, including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, on issues relating to examination integrity, ICT deployment and process optimisation.
The Presidency said Aina’s appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in public institutions, expressing confidence that he will consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership.
“Professor Aina operates at the intersection of technology, policy and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on system design, digital transition and operational reform,” the statement noted. “President Tinubu expects him to deploy his expertise to take JAMB to greater heights.”
