Video: Concerned Ondo resident exposes former Betty Akeredolu, late husband after calling Nigeria “a Zoo Country”
Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, former First Lady of Ondo State, is facing backlash after describing Nigeria as “a zoo country that is beyond redemption.”
Her controversial statement came on Wednesday as she compared Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election to the efficiency of the U.S. electoral process via her X account.
In her post, Akeredolu contrasted the two elections, writing:
“2023 Nigerian Presidential Election Total Votes Cast: 25 million Counting Duration: 5 days.
2024 U.S Presidential Election Total Votes Cast: 155 million Counting Duration: Approximately 10 hours.”
She concluded with, “Moral: When dishonesty is prioritized, simple things become difficult,” suggesting that inefficiencies in Nigeria’s election system are a result of a lack of transparency and integrity.
The remark sparked criticism, with many Nigerians expressing displeasure at her blunt assessment, accusing her of being dismissive and derogatory toward the country.
A concerned Ondo citizen, with an Instagram handle @Curvaceous001, raised questions about what she and her late husband, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, did better while ruling the state.
She recalled how the first lady and her son allegedly forged the signature of the late husband who was bed-ridden and kept far away in Ibadan.
