Osun Muslim Leader Urges Justice, Inclusive Governance as APC Candidate Visits OSMC

The President of the Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Adeleke Olawuyi, has urged political leaders to place justice, public welfare and responsible governance above partisan interests as Osun State prepares for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Olawuyi made the appeal on Sunday while receiving the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, at the Osun State Muslim Community Secretariat in Osogbo.

Oyebamiji was welcomed by leaders and members of the Muslim community during the stakeholder engagement, where he restated his commitment to fairness, justice and inclusive governance should he be elected governor.

Addressing the APC candidate, Olawuyi advised him to govern with the fear of God and to place the needs, aspirations and well-being of Osun residents above personal or political considerations.

He described Oyebamiji as a committed Muslim who had contributed to the growth of Islam, the Muslim Ummah and wider society, noting that the APC candidate had maintained a longstanding relationship with the community.

Olawuyi, however, stressed that the Osun State Muslim Community remains a non-partisan religious organisation committed to advancing Islam while contributing to peace, justice and sustainable social development.

He called on the next administration, irrespective of the party that wins the election, to ensure fairness and equity in the distribution of public resources and to address concerns affecting Muslims and other religious communities across the state.

The OSMC president also urged the government to give appropriate consideration to Islamic law within the existing constitutional and legal framework, alongside other issues raised by the Muslim community.

Responding, Oyebamiji thanked the organisation for the reception and said his administration, if elected, would be guided by justice, accountability and the fear of God.

“We will be fair, just and ensure the equitable distribution of resources,” Oyebamiji said.

He pledged to lead an inclusive and participatory government that would prioritise the welfare of all residents, regardless of their religious beliefs, political affiliations or social backgrounds.

The APC candidate also reaffirmed his commitment to Islam and expressed confidence in his chances of winning the governorship election.

Beyond his appeal for electoral support, Oyebamiji called for peaceful conduct before, during and after the election, stressing the importance of a free, fair and credible electoral process.

The engagement highlighted the growing role of faith-based and civic organisations in pressing political candidates to make measurable commitments on justice, public accountability, religious inclusion and equitable development.

As political activities intensify across Osun State, residents and civil society groups will be expected to scrutinise the promises of all candidates and demand clear plans for translating campaign commitments into improved public services, peaceful coexistence and better living conditions.

Oyebamiji’s visit forms part of a broader series of consultations with religious, traditional and community stakeholders ahead of the election.
