Iran unleashes new hypersonic missile in attack on Israel, claims 90% strike rate

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) revealed that it used a new type of hypersonic missile in its attack against Israel, claiming “90%” of its missiles successfully hit their intended targets.

The IRGC stated that its “Fattah” missile, created and manufactured by Tehran and unveiled last year, was part of the barrage. The name “Fattah” translates to “conqueror” or “bringer of victory” in Arabic.

However, the White House’s national security adviser contradicted Iran’s claim, branding the attack “ineffective.”

The “Fattah” missile made headlines last year after reports suggested it could carry nuclear warheads if required, though this remains unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan says Iran’s missile attack against Israel “appears to have been defeated and ineffective.”

“There will be severe consequences for this attack and we will work with Israel to make that the case,” Sullivan says during a press briefing at the White House.

Sullivan says Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel in tonight’s attack, and that US naval destroyers joined Israeli air defense units in firing interceptors that shot down inbound missile.

US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris monitored the attack from the White House Situation Room with their national security aides.
