Speaker Abbas marks 100 days in office, distributes rice palliatives to 15,000 constituents
In a bid to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians, especially in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, marked his 100 days in office with a remarkable act of compassion.
At the weekend, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, representing Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, oversaw the distribution of rice palliatives to 15,000 of his constituents.
This generous initiative took place across the 13 wards of Zaria Federal Constituency, which boasts 584 polling units.
The distribution, known as Phase 1 of his palliative measures, aimed to provide much-needed relief to those grappling with the economic impact of the subsidy removal.
The second phase of this commendable programme is set to follow suit, with an additional 15,000 constituents expected to benefit.
In total, 30,000 individuals will gain respite from the speaker’s thoughtful palliative measure.
It’s worth noting that this gesture transcended political boundaries, as beneficiaries hailed from various political parties, including the APC, PDP, and the NNPP. Moreover, the beneficiaries encompassed a wide spectrum of society, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, persons with disabilities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
The distribution event unfolded peacefully, with beneficiaries expressing their gratitude for the Speaker’s dedication to mitigating the impact of the subsidy removal within their community.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, who assumed office on June 13, 2023, was elected overwhelmingly by 353 out of 359 members. This overwhelming support reflects the trust and confidence his constituents have placed in him to represent their interests effectively.
Supervising the meticulous execution of this palliative endeavor was the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker (Administration), Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad.
