IGP appoints AIG Sikiru to lead INTERPOL National Crime Bureau

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has issued an order appointing Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Bankole Lanre Sikiru as the new head of the INTERPOL National Crime Bureau (NCB) at the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The directive was made public in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Friday.

AIG Bankole’s selection for this position comes in the wake of his recent promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. His appointment is expected to enhance the Force’s efforts in combating transnational crime.

AIG Bankole brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1990 and holds a degree in Law, being a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous leadership and strategic courses both within Nigeria and abroad, gaining expertise in various areas such as logistics, financial crime investigation, and drug trafficking.

Having served in various operational, investigative, and administrative capacities within the Force, including as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) INTERPOL and Commissioner of Police (CP) INTERPOL at the Force Criminal Investigations Department in Abuja, as well as CP in Ogun State, AIG Bankole’s experience makes him well-suited to lead the INTERPOL NCB.

The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed his commitment to fostering collaboration and embracing multi-agency diplomacy in achieving the vision for the Nigeria Police Force. He urged AIG Bankole to prioritize cooperation with international law enforcement agencies and partners in the fight against transnational crime. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of staying informed about emerging global security threats and trends, and adapting strategies accordingly.

The IGP also tasked AIG Bankole with providing regular updates on INTERPOL activities, challenges, and achievements. This information will enable the Nigeria Police to offer necessary support and guidance to the INTERPOL NCB.

The appointment of AIG Bankole Sikiru as the Head of the INTERPOL NCB is effective immediately, as stated in the official statement.
