GOC 2 Division: Nigerian Army awards scholarships to 4 exceptional command students

Maj Gen Mohammed Usman, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, has honored four exceptional students from Command Secondary School Mokola Ibadan and Command Secondary School Ede Osun State.

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday June 1, 2023.

According to the students, these students showcased remarkable performance in the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Mathematics Olympiad Competition 2023, held in Abuja for Armed Forces schools.

During the event, Maj Gen Usman expressed his admiration for the students’ accomplishments in mathematics and assured them of generous rewards.

He also emphasized the importance of recognizing their hard work and motivating them to continue striving for excellence.

The GOC announced the engagement of an educational consultant to conduct a two-day training workshop for the teachers at each of the Command Secondary Schools in the 2 Division’s Area of Responsibility.

“This initiative aims to enhance their capabilities and further support their teaching efforts,” said the GOC.

Addressing the gathering, Lt Col Thafa Musa, the Acting Director of 2 Division Education Service, commended the students for their outstanding performance in the competition.

He also extended gratitude to the GOC for granting well-deserved recognition to these students.

Mrs Fumilayo Adeoye, the Zonal Director of Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Defence, emphasized that the Olympiad Mathematics competition was jointly organized by the Ministry of Defense (Education Department) in Abuja and the National Mathematics Center.

She highlighted the exceptional achievements of Command Day Secondary School Ibadan, securing the first position, and Command Secondary School Ede, earning the third position in the competition.

It is worth noting that the Armed Forces Mathematics Olympiad Competition 2023 was held on March 23, 2023, in Abuja, with the participation of 110 Armed Forces Schools across Nigeria.

The following students were selected to receive scholarships:

  1. Sofiat Lawal – Command Day Secondary School Ede
  2. Adesewa Ojediran – Command Day Secondary School Ede
  3. Okeke Christopher – Command Secondary School Mokola
  4. Showunmi AbdulSomad – Command Secondary School Mokola
