Governor Zulum highlights achievements, promises continued progress in Borno State

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has unveiled his notable accomplishments during his first term and pledged to consolidate and enhance service delivery in his second term.

The governor disclosed this in his inauguration speech at Ramat Square, Maiduguri, on Monday May 29, 2023.

Governor Zulum proudly explained the progress made in combating insurgency and the successful resettlement of over 20,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by commissioning more than 700 capital projects throughout the state.

He expressed his joy in witnessing the restoration of normalcy and the resumption of social and economic activities in previously liberated communities, emphasizing his satisfaction in spending nights in local government areas.

The governor also highlighted his efforts to improve the healthcare sector, which included the recruitment of over 1,000 medical professionals and the rehabilitation of over 100 health facilities.

Governor Zulum mentioned significant advancements in education, such as the establishment of a state university with ongoing academic activities since 2019, the creation of a Federal Polytechnic in Monguno, and a Federal College of Education in Gwoza.

He also outlined, “the construction of 24 new mega schools, the rehabilitation of 108 existing schools, and the employment of approximately 1,000 teachers, with plans to recruit an additional 4,000.”

According to him, he implemented a rigorous quality evaluation system for teachers to ensure the delivery of quality education in the state.

Addressing the issue of youth thuggery and hooliganism, Governor Zulum said his “administration established Vocational Training Institutes in three regions to provide training in various skills, thereby offering opportunities for self-improvement and personal growth.”

Governor Zulum urged the people of Borno State to join him on a journey of consolidation and the pursuit of a lasting legacy.

He pledged to sustain peace in the state and enhance the security architecture to eradicate insurgency completely.

He promised to focus on improving rural infrastructure, enabling the resumption of night travel within the state.

Seeking community leaders’ input, Governor Zulum urged them to identify their communities’ pressing needs and feasible projects that align with the state’s resources and capabilities. He expressed his commitment to constructing hybrid powered boreholes, water works, teachers’ quarters, higher Islamic colleges, and mega-size community schools in various parts of the state.

Regarding infrastructure development, Governor Zulum outlined numerous plans, including the construction of a flyover around Borno Express, an outer ring road by-pass, township roads, and critical road projects. He also emphasized the completion and rehabilitation of several key road networks, addressing flood problems, and ensuring the safety and accessibility of vital transportation routes.

Governor Zulum’s speech showcased his dedication to delivering progress and improving the lives of the people in Borno State, highlighting his achievements while laying out a comprehensive vision for the future.
