FG suspends 13 Unity College students in Enugu for bullying
The Federal Government has suspended 13 students from the Federal Unity College (FUC) in Enugu State for six weeks due to alleged involvement in bullying incidents within the school.
The suspension order was issued by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, following the circulation of a viral video showing students engaging in bullying behavior at the school.
This was contained in a statement by Folashade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Minister Alausa underscored the Ministry of Education’s dedication to ensuring a secure and supportive learning atmosphere in all federal schools nationwide.
According to Alausa, the Ministry of Education recently received a report highlighting the bullying incident at FUC Enugu, sparking serious concerns over the safety and discipline standards maintained within the school environment.
”The findings of the ministry, the incident involved the gang assault of an SS1 student (a day student) by a group of students on November 7.
”The incident came to light showing the circulation of a disturbing video on social media platforms.
”In response, the Federal Ministry of Education established a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter.
”Based on the findings, all 13 students involved have been placed on a six-week suspension pending the report of the investigative committee,” he said.
Additionally, the minister instructed the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) to work with security authorities to carry out a comprehensive inquiry, including any potential connections to outside organizations.
