The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division following a viral video showing the officer slapping a young man.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, October 22, sparked public outrage after the footage surfaced on X (formerly Twitter).

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police condemned the officer’s conduct, describing it as “unprofessional, uncivil, and completely unacceptable.”

According to the statement, CP Dantawaye emphasized that such behaviour falls short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected from police officers under his command.

“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the officer’s actions, which are inconsistent with the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. Such behaviour will not be tolerated under his leadership,” Adeh stated.

She further explained that while the officer has been redeployed to the State Headquarters, an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken.

“While administrative disciplinary steps are being taken, CP Dantawaye reminds all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates to remain professional, courteous, and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties,” the statement added. “He warns that any act of misconduct or abuse of power will attract severe sanctions.”

The Police Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain respectful and law-abiding in their dealings with police officers, stressing that mutual respect and cooperation are essential for effective community policing and public safety.

SP Adeh encouraged residents of the FCT to report any suspicious activities or misconduct by officers through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08061581938, 08032003913, or via the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) line at 08107314192.
