The Nigeria Police Force has made major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime, with the successful rescue of 12 trafficked children in Abia State and the recovery of high-powered firearms and ammunition in Kogi State.

These operations reflect the Force’s renewed commitment to ensuring public safety and reducing crime nationwide.

In Kogi State, police operatives intercepted a green-colored Sharon vehicle that sped through a security checkpoint.

“The team engaged the bus in a hot pursuit, and the driver, upon realising he was being trailed, abandoned the bus and fled into a nearby bush,” the statement said. A swift cordon and search of the vehicle led to a significant arms discovery: five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition.

The police believe the abandoned arms may be linked to a recent armed robbery at a fuel station in Kabba. “Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect are in progress,” the Force added.

In a separate operation in Abia State, officers arrested two individuals—Blessing Emebo (49, female) and Sunday Emebo (42, male)—for allegedly running an illegal and unregistered motherless babies’ home out of their residential apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.

Acting on credible intelligence, the police raided the location and discovered twelve children aged between six months and fourteen years.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the children originated from various villages in the Arochukwu area,” the statement confirmed. The rescued minors have since been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care and rehabilitation.

Reaffirming his commitment to public safety, the Inspector-General of Police reiterated that the Force remains relentless in dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding vulnerable citizens.
