Tinubu Commends National Assembly for Endorsing Rivers State Emergency Proclamation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the National Assembly for its swift and patriotic approval of the State of Emergency in Rivers State, calling it a crucial step toward restoring stability following a prolonged political crisis.
In a statement released on Thursday, the President lauded Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and other lawmakers for prioritizing the security and welfare of Rivers residents over partisan interests. He noted that their careful review of security briefings underscored the urgency of intervention to prevent further deterioration.
“The crisis in Rivers State was at a dangerous tipping point, threatening vital oil and gas infrastructure and undermining the national economy,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing that decisive action was necessary to protect federal assets and maintain stability.
The six-month emergency period, according to the President, will empower the appointed Sole Administrator to restore governance, secure critical infrastructure, and facilitate reconciliation among conflicting parties. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaboration with the National Assembly in fostering peace, economic resilience, and national development.
“Today’s decision demonstrates the power of unity and patriotism in governance. We remain committed to building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria,” Tinubu affirmed.
The President also called on all stakeholders to support the peace process and thanked Nigerians for their understanding during this critical period.
