Russia vs Ukraine: Zelenskyy rejects ceasefire without security guarantees
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has firmly rejected calls for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing war with Russia, arguing that halting hostilities without clear security guarantees would be a failure for everyone.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Zelenskyy stated that a ceasefire without a lasting resolution would be impossible to enforce.
“We must be open. If you don’t have an end to the war and you don’t have security guarantees, no one is able to control a ceasefire,” he stated on Sunday after a significant meeting with over a dozen European leaders.
Zelenskyy’s comments come just days after a tense disagreement at the White House, which reportedly surprised U.S. allies.
The details of the dispute remain unclear, but it has further highlighted the complex diplomatic tensions surrounding the conflict.
Zelenskyy later wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that Ukraine is prepared to sign a minerals agreement with the U.S., potentially strengthening economic ties amid the prolonged war.
