Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has declared that the state will begin payment of the newly approved national minimum wage of N70,500 from December 2024, despite the ongoing industrial action in the state.

Governor Sule made this announcement during the inauguration of the remodeled office of the Deputy Governor in Lafia, the state capital. He emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to addressing the consequential adjustments associated with the new wage structure.

The governor highlighted that previous administrations had approved higher wage adjustments despite the state’s constrained financial capacity compared to other states in the region. He assured workers that his government is determined to implement a fair and sustainable adjustment while prioritizing their welfare.

In his address, Governor Sule appealed to labour unions to suspend their strike action and resume work. He urged them to continue engaging in dialogue with the state government to reach a mutually agreeable solution.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a collaborative and peaceful relationship with organized labour, underscoring the importance of industrial harmony for the progress and development of Nasarawa State.

Governor Sule’s announcement reflects his administration’s efforts to balance fiscal responsibility with the imperative of improving workers’ welfare, even amidst industrial unrest. This proactive stance aims to foster trust and cooperation between the government and the workforce while ensuring economic and social stability in the state.
