John Mahama alleges bias by electoral commission ahead of Ghana’s elections
Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has accused Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to assist the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in manipulating the upcoming elections.
Speaking on Friday, Mahama alleged that the plot to influence the election would fail, emphasizing Ghanaians’ determination to protect the integrity of their votes.
The NDC has reportedly documented several incidents since Thursday, December 5, where validating stamps were exposed by EC officials. Mahama argued that this exposure could enable the production of counterfeit stamps, potentially undermining the electoral process.
Additionally, the former President referenced an alleged EC memo dated October 10, 2024, which he claims outlines a strategy to facilitate ballot stuffing by pre-leaking serial numbers of validating stamps. According to Mahama, these actions form part of a coordinated attempt to skew the election results in favor of the NPP.
In response to these allegations, Mahama has called on the National Peace Council, religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, international bodies, and election observer missions to step in and demand accountability from the EC.
