“He has nothing new to offer”: Nana Akuffo-Addo knocks former Ghanaian president as elections draw close
President Nana Akufo-Addo has declared that former president John Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, is unfit to win the upcoming December elections due to his lack of innovative ideas.
The President pointed to Mahama’s past record, citing his failed reelection bid as proof of his unsuitability for the presidency.
During the unveiling of Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the NPP’s running mate on Tuesday, President Akufo-Addo drew parallels with former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and himself, all of whom successfully served two terms in office.
“Since the 4th republic, Jerry John Rawlings was allowed to serve for his second term, John Agyekum Kufuor was also allowed to serve for two terms, and me, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also been allowed to serve for two terms.
“However, he [Mahama] was rejected for his second term and he’s now asking for a second chance. We won’t consider him for the presidency, either today or tomorrow.”
“He talks as if we don’t know his track record. He has nothing new to offer. We know his track record and he has nothing new for Ghanaians.
“We saw what he did during his tenure in office which led to his defeat in his second attempt. After realizing he was not fit for the job, why should we vote for him now? We won’t!” He said.
Ghana will hold general elections on December 7, 2024, to choose a president and parliamentary representatives.
Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo is not running for re-election due to term limits.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) selected Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia as their candidate, while former President John Mahama will represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the much anticipated presidential race.
The President of Ghana is elected using the two-round system, while the 275 members of parliament are elected in single-member constituencies using first-past-the-post voting.
