“Promote Bobrisky from sisterhood to prisonhood” – Netizens tell EFCC
The arrest of cross-dresser and social media personality, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sparked widespread discussion and praise across online platforms.
The EFCC’s action came after Bobrisky’s alleged involvement in various financial misdemeanours, including the abuse of the Nigerian currency, spraying of naira notes, and currency mutilation.
Bobrisky’s arrest took place in Lagos, stirring a frenzy of reactions from netizens who applauded the EFCC for taking decisive action against the controversial figure.
Many expressed their support for the commission’s efforts to ensure accountability and justice, advocating for Bobrisky to face the full consequences of his actions.
In a statement released by the EFCC titled “EFCC Grills Bobrisky for Naira Abuse,” the commission revealed that its operatives had launched an investigation into Bobrisky’s conduct following a viral video depicting him spraying and flaunting wads of new naira notes at a movie premiere. The premiere, hosted by Nollywood actress and producer Eniola Ajao, had drawn attention to Bobrisky’s alleged involvement in financial impropriety.

Reactions
Reacting to Bobrisky’s arrest, netizens took to social media to voice their opinions.
Peter Idowu Jiya emphasized the need for Bobrisky to face legal repercussions for his actions, criticizing his behavior and urging authorities to hold him accountable.
Others, like Omoigberale Richardson, pondered the logistics of Bobrisky’s potential incarceration, highlighting the complexities surrounding gender identity within the correctional system.
“Wait oo. If she is found guilty now. Which section of the correctional facility will they send him to? The male or the female section?” he wrote
Meanwhile, Prince Bryan, questioned the selective nature of Bobrisky’s arrest, suggesting that other celebrities might also be engaging in similar unlawful activities without facing consequences.
He stated, “Bobrisky shouldn’t be the only one to be arrested for such crime, majority of our celebrities had been doing this unless there’s another thing behind this which this commission is not saying.”
Godfrey Chukwuemeka offered a different perspective, speculating on the possibility of Bobrisky’s arrest being part of a larger publicity stunt orchestrated by Eniola Ajao and the EFCC to generate attention for their movie.
Chukwuemeka said, ” It’s intriguing how easily some Nigerians fall for social media publicity stunts. Eniola Ajao collaborated with Bobrisky to orchestrate a scheme where a supposed male would win the best female dress award, likely aiming to create a buzz. Perhaps she even enlisted EFCC’s help to further promote their movie. Just revisit the post and notice how EFCC meticulously analyzed the film, giving credit to the producer and emphasizing their involvement, all to attract attention. Surprisingly, their plan seems to be working, as I can’t recall EFCC’s page ever receiving so many comments, let alone reaching 1K in 1hr.”
Comrade Adeyemo Ayobami echoed similar sentiments, pointing out the prevalence of currency spraying among affluent individuals and calling for a nuanced approach to addressing Bobrisky’s behaviour.
Despite varying opinions, Bobrisky’s arrest has ignited discussions surrounding accountability, gender expression, and the role of law enforcement in regulating social media influencers’ conduct.
