Bobrisky: Netizens drag Aisha Yesufu as Kano government bans movies promoting cross-dressing
Netizens on X, formerly Twitter, locked horns with Aisha Yesufu, Nigerian activist and co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, over her reaction to the decision of the Kano State Government to ban all movies and cinematic productions promoting thuggery and cross-dressing in the state.
The ban is coming at a time when the operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, detained the popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, for allegedly abusing Naira notes.
The move, according to a statement by the media officer of the Kano State’s Censorship Board, Abdullah Sani Sulaiman, follows complaints from residents regarding issues considered to contradict their cultural values.
“It is high time we put a stop to this sort of films that corrupt the morals of the Kano people,” the board stated.
While reacting to the development on her X account, Aisha Yusufu knocked the Kano State government alleging that cross-dressers were all over Kano before Bobrisky was conceived.
She wrote: “Cross dressers were all over Kano before Bobrisky was conceived. Bobrisky still has things to learn from the original ones in Kano who don’t need surgery to transform. Yeah let’s continue with the hypocrisy and make it a now thing.”
Commenting on her post on X, some netizens argued that her reaction was unjustified, stressing that Bobrisky was not arrested for cross-dressing but for abuse of the Naira by the EFCC.
@Justmanafolabi said: “Well, she wasn’t arrested for crossdressing.. But let me talk about the cross dressing thing, actually, the ones in Kano are not so pronounced, they cannot corrupt my kids just like that.”
@orllybam remarked: “I’m very disappointed in you. The fact that You have cross Dressers in Kano doesn’t mean you should come out openly and rubbish what Kano State Government is doing so as to help keep the State sane and moral. People like Bobrisky should face the wrath of the law and their life style/acts shouldn’t be encouraged in the society. Are you trying to justify Bobrisky’s immoral acts and doings? You shouldn’t do that. This is a nice step from Kano State Government.”
@AdventurousAlec also said: “As much as I love Aisha Yesufu, I would disregard this message. Kano state decisions to ban crossdresser content is the right step to public decency. Even if it’s out of hypocrisy as you stated, a change must begin somewhere, regardless who makes that change.”
On his part,
On his part, @SamuelA13284266 backed the activist, saying, “I was raised in Kano still living in Kano I can categorically tell you this woman is staying the obvious truth. Sometimes we eat their food we don’t even know cos majority of them are roadside food vendors.”
