Ahmed Musa reflects on AFCON journey, calls for national unity
Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa has charged his teammates and Nigerians as a whole on the need to embrace the country’s diversity as a strength and stand united as one nation, one team, one family.
The Nigerian star is speaking for the first time following the disappointing final that saw the Super Eagles of Nigeria losing by 2-1 to the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire.
Nigeria progressed to the final stage with an unbeaten record despite being scared by aggressive South Africans in the semifinal.
Speaking on the team’s journey in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the former Kano Pillars and Leicester City forward said the Super Eagles may have missed out in the trophy but “unity on the field transcended religious and tribal differences, reminding us of the power of football to bring us together.”
He said, “Reflecting on our journey in the AFCON tournament, I’m filled with immense pride for the Nigerian Super Eagles. Though we may have fallen short of the championship, our unity on the field transcended religious and tribal differences, reminding us of the power of football to bring us together. Despite the twists and turns of the game, our team stood strong, displaying resilience and determination that resonated with fans across the nation.”
He commended Nigerians for backing the team throughout the competition, confessing that they lifted the soul of the team despite the raging economic downturn.
