IGP presents over N2b to families of fallen officers
In a poignant ceremony at the Force Headquarters, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, distributed cheques totaling over 2 billion Naira to 613 beneficiaries and next-of-kins of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme.
This substantial payout covered the policy years 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023.
During the event, IGP Egbetokun underscored the paramount importance of prioritizing the welfare of all police officers, including those who have served, retired, and unfortunately, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The IGP expressed condolences to the families of the fallen heroes and reassured them of the administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting and acknowledging their sacrifices.
The disclosed total amount involved in the policies, a staggering Two Billion, Two Hundred and Seventy-Six Million, One Hundred and Ten Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Six Naira, Eighteen Kobo (N2,276,110,966.18k), marked the third such distribution since IGP Egbetokun assumed office.
The Inspector-General highlighted that this financial support serves as a tangible acknowledgment of the invaluable contributions made by the deceased officers, providing much-needed relief to their grieving families.
IGP Egbetokun took a moment to commend the exceptional efforts of the Force Insurance Unit and collaborating insurance companies for their dedicated work in ensuring the prompt settlement of claims to deserving beneficiaries.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering commitment to police welfare, ensuring the timely release of premiums for the Insurance Scheme.
The ceremony, attended by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, marked a solemn yet significant occasion, showcasing the administration’s dedication to honoring and supporting the families of those who have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
