Governor-elect of Kogi State, Ododo Ahmed Usman, has commended the people of the state for entrusting him with the mandate to lead from January 2024.

Usman said this in a statement on Monday, following his declaration as the winner of the Kogi State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the statement, the All Progressives Congress candidate said his administration would embark on a “historic journey to build a united and prosperous community of people with a common destiny.”

Usman vowed to govern with transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness when he was eventually sworn in to champion the affairs of the state.

“Your trust is a compass guiding us in our commitment to enthroning transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance,” Usman stated.

“As we sail the ship to new frontiers, I am confident that our collective determination will yield positive outcomes for every citizen of our dear state.”

Ododo also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring a peaceful environment and a level playing field for all candidates in the Saturday governorship election.

He also lauded the outgoing governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, for his support before, during and even after the poll, calling him a mentor, leader, benefactor, and leadership coach.

“Thank you, sir and we assure you that we will not disappoint you. As the architects of modern Kogi State, we will continue to tap from your wealth of experience and passion to serve the great people of our state. I also thank all our party stalwarts and leaders who toiled day and night to deliver this collective success,” he added.

He, however, called on the people of Kogi State to continue working hand in hand to achieve the shared goals of the state.

“To the citizens of Kogi and our nation at large, your faith in our leadership fuels our passion to serve you diligently. Your support forms the foundation upon which we build a brighter future for all. Let us continue working hand in hand to achieve the shared aspirations we hold for our beloved state,” he appealed.

Recall that Ododo Ahmed Usman was declared the winner of the Saturday off-cycle governorship election in Kogi by the INEC returning officer, Johnson Urama after he polled a total of 446,237 votes.

Ododo secured victory in 13 out of the 21 local government areas in the state.
