NA falsifies capture of Armoured Personnel Carrier by insurgents
The National Headquarters of the Nigerian Army has falsified a trending video depicting seizure of an armoured vehicle belonging to the agency by insurgents.
It maintained that the unsubstantiated and apparently fabricated video clip captured Turji Bello, one of the infamous terrorist leaders in North-West Nigeria.
Director Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu revealed on Thursday, 24th August, 2023.
No traces of the incident, according to Nwachukwu, actually happened within the areas of operations of the Nigerian Army in the whole North-West region, as described in the video.
The PRO further explained that the scene captured in the clip did not even resemble any geographical location in the country; however, he added that verifiable data with the agency shows it to have happened in Burkina Faso in the year 2021.
He reinstated that the video was shared on Facebook on November 9, 2021.
Furthermore, Nwachukwu stated that the Nigerian Army maintains a “high level of vigilance and professionalism in safeguarding its own armoured vehicles by ensuring that they are not compromised by any criminal element.”
He, therefore, urges members of the public to be vigilant of “misinformation and propaganda employed by the insurgents, aimed at precipitating fear and disrupting the peace and security of our nation.”
“The NA remains committed to protecting the lives and property of our citizens and will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and stability across the country.
“The NA will continue to provide updates on its operations and activities through official channels to ensure accurate and reliable information reaches the public,” the officer remarked.
