Katsina govt shared food items, farm input to relieve hardship

The Katsina State Government has distributed oodles of food items, particularly rice and maize, to households, targeting the less privileged in the state.

The Government also shared fertilizers, a major input for the rural dwellers, whose occupations are mostly farming, in a bid to lessen the hardships of the time.

The Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Bashir Tanimu Gambo, disclosed this after the State’s Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

In order to ensure that the palliatives reach the targeted beneficiaries, Governor Radda inaugurates distribution committees.

Alh. Gambo said, “The committees will be established at the local government and ward levels across the State to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the food items to the target beneficiaries, who are mostly the less privileged members of Katsina communities.

He maintained that “the local government committees will be headed by Council Chairmen, with members including representatives from the State House of Assembly, District Heads, and representatives of the Izala and Tariqa religious sects.

“At the ward levels, the committee will be chaired by the councilor from the community, and members will include the village head and representatives of the two Islamic sects,” Alh. Gambo added.

The Commissioner stated that the shared items were bought with the State’s funds from the Federal Government, adding that it will also bear the logistics of conveying them to the end users.

He said, “The Katsina State Government will cover the cost of transporting the food commodities to various distribution points across the State.”
