Fire razes popular Ibadan market, consumes goods worth multimillion naira

Fire has razed a popular Agbeni market in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to report early Sunday, goods and properties with millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of the inferno.

It was also gathered that the fire began at about 04:30 am on Sunday.

The cause of the fire could not still be established.

The state General Manager of Fire Services, Yemi Akinyemi, confirmed the incident to journalists when contacted.

Akinyemi said, “The agency received the distress call at exactly 04:37 hrs through Sunday Ogundele, Access Bank security that Agbeni market is on fire.

“Our men are still battling with the job, we are grateful to the Central Bank of Nigeria that allows us to use their water supply.

“Everything is under control. They are still going to CBN to replenish,” he confirmed.

South West Zonal Director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Akiode when contacted, said that personnel of the agency have been deployed to the scene and will provide more details in due time.
