NPF dismisses three officers for illegal conduct

The Nigerian Police Force, NPF has dismissed three officers for gross misconduct.

NPF Public Relation Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the offenders: Inspector Dahiru Shuaibu, Sergeant Abdullahi Badamasi and Sergeant Isah Danladi fired bullet in the air amidst crowds, an act which is totally condemned and described as indiscipline and wastage of ammunition.

The three officers were reportedly to be on escort duty of a musician in Kahutu Village, Katsina State on the 7th April, 2023, have been consequently reprimanded with discharge from service.

“The act was not only criminal and unprofessional but also embarrassing to the Force and the nation at large,” NPF said in a statement.

Adejobi stated that the sanction upon the trio from Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 1, Kano in Kano State will serve as a live lesson for all and sundry in the police force on the detrimental effect of breaching the standard operating procedures.

Following the dismissal, a Nigerian, Emmanuel Escobar, described the punishment of becoming jobless in this time of higher poverty and unemployment rates to be too harsh on such uniform personnels as it can necessitate their indulgence in more criminal offenses. He then considers demotion and salary deduction as viable alternatives.

“Even if the crime they committed is gross, they can be suspended without salary for some time and be punished, but not dismissal,” he said.
