Tinubu, CAF Boss Motsepe Hold Talks at Africa Forward Summit in Kenya
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met with President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
The bilateral meeting centred on enhancing cooperation between governments, football institutions, and the private sector to support development efforts in Nigeria and across the African continent.
CAF confirmed the meeting in a statement shared on its official X platform, noting that both leaders discussed key areas of partnership involving sports and economic growth.
“CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and the Nigerian Head of State, His Excellency Bola Tinubu, met today on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi,” the statement read.
“They discussed several topics, particularly cooperation between the government, football, and the private sector in Nigeria and in Africa.”
Motsepe’s participation at the summit comes as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Tinubu arrived in Kenya on Monday as part of his ongoing three-country tour. The Presidency said the visit is Tinubu’s second trip to Kenya since taking office in July 2023.
Before arriving in Nairobi, the Nigerian president had visited France, where he engaged international investors and reiterated his administration’s commitment to economic reforms and fiscal discipline.
The Africa-France Summit, jointly hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto, is focused on strengthening partnerships for innovation, economic growth, climate action, and digital transformation across Africa.
Tinubu is also expected to meet with leading African and international business executives on the sidelines of the summit.
After the Kenya engagement, the president is scheduled to proceed to Kigali, Rwanda, for the Africa CEO Forum holding from May 14 to 15 before returning to Nigeria.
