The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, Hon. Hassan Kamorudeen Okanlawon, has denied allegations that he sold the Ikirun refuse dumping site located at Agboro Community.

Okanlawon made the clarification in a rejoinder to a letter issued by the NIPU Northern States Council, titled “Request for Clarification and Accountability on the Sale of Ikirun Refuse Dumping Land at Agboro Community.”

He stated that at no point during his tenure as Caretaker Chairman or Executive Chairman did he sell or authorize the sale of the local government’s refuse dumping site.

“I wish to state clearly, firmly, and for the avoidance of doubt that I did not sell the Ifelodun Local Government refuse dumping site at Agboro Community, Ikirun, at any time during my tenure,” Okanlawon said.

Alternative Land Provided By Hon Okanlawon

According to him, the Agboro dumping site had become surrounded by residential buildings, posing environmental and health risks, which necessitated its conversion in line with urban planning standards.

“In the interest of public health and orderly urban planning, the site was converted into government-approved schemes based on professional advice. This decision was taken solely in the public interest,” he explained.

The council chairman further dismissed claims that no alternative dumping site was provided, revealing that his administration acquired a new refuse dumping site at Ago Ajuna in Akeremewe Families Farm.

“My administration purchased another parcel of land measuring several acres specifically for refuse dumping purposes, which was already operational before I left office,” he said.

Okanlawon stressed that all land-related matters, including allocation and documentation, fall under statutory departments of the local government, not the personal authority of the Chairman.

“Any request for official documents should be directed to the Head of Department, Town Planning Department, Ifelodun Local Government, who is the lawful custodian of such records,” he added.

He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the development of Ikirun and Ifelodun Local Government, urging the public to rely on verified facts rather than speculation.
