OMCC Issues Strong Warning to Robitatul A’immah Over Comments on Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland
The Ogbomoso Muslim Consensus Council (OMCC) has issued a firm and formal warning to Robitatul A’immah and its spokesperson, following what it described as inappropriate and misleading comments regarding the leadership of the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland. The council, a coalition comprising elders, scholars, youth representatives, professionals, and community dignitaries both at home and in the diaspora, released the statement on November 16, 2025, stressing that the sanctity of Ogbomoso’s religious leadership must never be undermined.
In the statement, the OMCC reiterated that the office of the Chief Imam remains a historically recognized, fixed, and community-bound institution that cannot be influenced by external associations. The council emphasized that the role, authority, and succession of the Chief Imam are rooted in Ogbomoso’s cultural and religious heritage, and any attempt to interfere with or distort this process would be firmly resisted. The council noted that Robitatul A’immah has no supervisory authority over local imamship matters in the region.
The council expressed dissatisfaction with recent remarks attributed to the Mudir of Markaz Agege, describing them as unnecessary, poorly thought out, and capable of inciting misunderstanding among Muslims. According to the OMCC, such comments distort facts and endanger the peace that has long existed within the Ogbomoso Muslim community. The group warned that respected institutions must never be subjected to sensational or uninformed commentary.
The OMCC further stated that leadership within Islamic organizations should be guided by wisdom, restraint, and accountability, not by public theatrics or controversial declarations. It urged Robitatul A’immah to review its communication processes, caution its representatives, and avoid making statements that could be misinterpreted as interference in the religious affairs of Ogbomosoland. The council insisted that maintaining discipline within the association is essential to sustaining peace among Muslim communities.
In outlining its expectations, the OMCC called on Robitatul A’immah to clarify publicly that it has no role in the appointment, assessment, or removal of the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland. It also demanded an immediate halt to all commentary relating to Ogbomoso’s religious leadership to prevent further tension. The council stressed that these expectations are not excessive but reflect the basic standards required to preserve mutual respect and harmony.
Affirming the unity of Muslims within Ogbomosoland and the diaspora, the OMCC declared that the community remains steadfast in defending the integrity of the Chief Imam’s office. It insisted that any attempt to sow division or exert pressure on the region’s religious institutions would be decisively resisted. The council explained that its resolve is grounded in Islamic jurisprudence, community consensus, historical legitimacy, and a commitment to justice.
The statement concluded with a strong declaration that the religious leadership of Ogbomosoland is not open to debate or external manipulation. The OMCC emphasized that while the community values peace and stability, its patience should never be mistaken for weakness and its silence must not be interpreted as submission. The council reaffirmed its determination to safeguard the dignity and autonomy of Ogbomoso’s Islamic leadership structures.
