The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed social media reports alleging an attack or assassination attempt on one Lt. Ahmed Yerima during a stop-and-search operation at the NNPC Junction along Kubwa Expressway.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the viral claims circulated by an Instagram blogger, “Mazitundeednut,” are false, misleading, and malicious.

The Command explained that at about 6:15 p.m. on November 16, a police patrol team stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows—features that triggered routine checks in line with operational standards. Officers reportedly requested the driver’s identification and clarification for the concealments, but he refused to cooperate, instead making phone calls and rolling up the tinted windows.

Minutes later, three naval personnel arrived and identified the driver as their colleague. After the confirmation, the police team allowed the vehicle to continue its journey, while the naval personnel were said to have taken photos and videos before leaving the scene. The interaction ended without incident.

The Command expressed surprise that the routine operation was later framed online as an assassination attempt.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, urged residents to cooperate with security operatives and avoid spreading unverified information capable of generating fear and tension within the capital.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious activity through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311, and CRU: 08107314192.
