The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has strongly rejected the recent claim by former U.S. President Donald Trump alleging that Christians are victims of genocide in Nigeria, describing the comment as misleading and capable of igniting unnecessary tension.

MUSWEN President, Rasaki Oladejo, addressed journalists ahead of the organisation’s 10th General Assembly scheduled to hold on Sunday in Gbongan, Osun State. He cautioned Nigerians against being swayed by what he called divisive rhetoric from foreign figures who do not understand the country’s internal dynamics.

Oladejo maintained that Trump’s genocide claim was “baseless, false and unwarranted,” insisting that Nigeria’s religious groups have coexisted for decades and possess mechanisms for resolving disagreements without external interference.

He stressed the need for Nigerians to unite behind President Bola Tinubu’s administration, especially in the ongoing battle against banditry and other security threats.

According to him, the upcoming General Assembly will examine critical national issues, including interfaith harmony and sustainable peace. President Tinubu and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, are among the high-profile personalities expected at the event.

Oladejo urged religious adherents to rely on established local platforms for dialogue, noting that Nigeria already has strong institutions for managing interreligious relations.

Quoting his remarks, he said:
“Nigerians, we are one family in Nigeria. We should not allow any internal… This is our internal problem. We should be allowed to solve our internal problems.

“We have NIREC, which is a forum for Muslim leaders and Christian leaders. We can use that one. There is Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace. This is another forum where Muslims and Christian leaders can also meet. I think we should use all this to solve all our internal problems among ourselves.

“Muslims and Christians, we are together. We are inseparable. We are Nigerians. So we will continue together.”
