The Nigerian Army (NA) has reaffirmed its commitment to community development in Argungu, Kebbi State, with the renovation of a modern block of three classrooms at Dankoji Nizamiyya Primary School, Kanta Road, Yardole Area, and the donation of four boreholes to boost access to clean water.

The initiative, executed under the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Project, underscores the Army’s dedication to advancing education and welfare beyond its traditional security role.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Emir of Argungu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, described the intervention as a reflection of the Nigerian Army’s deep sense of responsibility to society. He noted that security goes beyond military operations, emphasizing the vital link between education, welfare, and national stability.

“Security is not confined to the battlefield; it also encompasses education, welfare, and the overall progress of the communities we serve,” the Emir said. “By supporting education and providing access to clean water, the Nigerian Army is laying a solid foundation for lasting peace and progress.”

The project facilitator, Major General Ismaila Babangida Abubakar, an illustrious indigene of Argungu, expressed joy at the successful completion of the project, describing it as a personal contribution to the growth of his community.

“This project is driven by a deep desire to give back to the community that raised me,” he said. “It is my hope that these facilities will be put to good use for the benefit of our children and future generations.”

He appealed to residents to take full ownership of the facilities, adding that their maintenance should be a collective responsibility.

“The Nigerian Army has done its part; it is now up to the community leaders, teachers, and residents to protect and sustain these structures for the benefit of all,” he added.

Major General Abubakar further emphasized that the project aligns with the COAS’s Command Philosophy aimed at transforming the Nigerian Army into a highly motivated force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties.

“By investing in community well-being, the Nigerian Army is actively contributing to a safer and more prosperous Nigeria,” he noted.

In his remarks, the project supervisor, Mr. Magaji Lawal, recounted the poor state of the facilities before the intervention. He explained that the classrooms had been abandoned and were in dire need of rehabilitation.

“Before this project, the building was in complete disrepair. The Chief of Army Staff, upon receiving our report, promptly approved the funding for its full renovation. This demonstrates his genuine commitment to improving the lives of the people of Argungu,” Lawal said.

The renovation included the complete remodeling of the three-classroom building, repair of 46 classroom chairs and tables, and procurement of four pairs of tables and chairs for teachers. It also featured the construction and installation of a solar-powered borehole at Gwazange community, a hand pump at Yar’Aduwa community, a motorized borehole with a power generator also at Yar’Aduwa, and the rehabilitation of a borehole with a generator house at Dankoji Nizamiyya Primary School.

The commissioning ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including the Emir of Argungu, the Mai Biu, the Shehu of Bama, Major General M.D. Danja, Brigadier General Moses Ikobah, Colonel Toro, community leaders, teachers, and pupils of Dankoji Nizamiyya Primary School.
