The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has announced the passing of Sheikh Ahmad Oladoke Aladesawe, the Chief Imam of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas.

The revered cleric died on the night of Monday, September 15, 2025, at the age of 91. His death, MUSWEN said, leaves a deep void in the hearts of the Muslim community, the people of Owo Kingdom, and the South West region at large.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by MUSWEN President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Executive Secretary, Professor Muslih Tayo Yahya, the organisation described Sheikh Aladesawe as more than a religious leader.

“He was a paragon of Islamic scholarship and devotion, a pillar of community service, and a unifying force for peace and progress among Muslims and non-Muslims alike,” the statement read.

As Chairman of the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas, MUSWEN noted that Sheikh Aladesawe played a pivotal role in fostering dialogue, promoting religious harmony, and advancing the welfare of the Muslim Ummah across Ondo State and beyond.

The organisation also highlighted his dedication to education, da’wah (Islamic propagation), and social justice, describing him as an inspiration to countless individuals and institutions, including MUSWEN itself.

MUSWEN extended condolences to the late Imam’s family, the Baba Adinni of Owo Kingdom, Alhaji Jamiu Ekungba, the Owo Muslim Community, the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas, the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, the Governor of Ondo State, and all who were touched by his exemplary life.

“We pray that Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and grant his family, loved ones, and the entire community the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.

MUSWEN further urged Muslims to reflect on Sheikh Aladesawe’s legacy and rededicate themselves to the values he championed—faith, unity, and service to humanity—while also increasing acts of worship and prayers for the deceased.
