Jibrin Abdulmumin Bids Farewell to NNPP After Shock Expulsion, Promises to Chart New Political Course

Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has formally announced his exit from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), following what he described as a “rude shock” expulsion from the party.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, September 6, 2025, the lawmaker said his removal was not only sudden but also lacking in due process, stressing that no opportunity was given to him to defend or clarify his recent comments in an interview.
> “Even under military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court martial. Perhaps, if the appropriate processes were followed, the need for such harsh decision to force me out of a party and family I love so dearly may not be necessary,” Jibrin lamented.
The former NNPP stalwart insisted that the statements he made in both English and Hausa during the interview aligned with the party’s founding principles of free expression and constructive dissent. He expressed disappointment that rather than drawing lessons from his observations, the party chose to wield expulsion as punishment.
On allegations of defaulting in party dues, Jibrin clarified that he has never refused payment. “I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay,” he stated, while urging NNPP leadership to avoid unnecessary litigation and inflammatory rhetoric.
The lawmaker also criticized what he described as the party’s lack of recognition for individual political contributions, noting that members are often made to feel undervalued.
“I am grateful to the Almighty for whatever value I have, no matter how little, and will be more than glad to invest it where it will be appreciated with dignity rather than a place where, no matter what you bring on board, you are a nobody,” he declared.
Despite the bitter end to his journey with the NNPP, Jibrin maintained a conciliatory tone, wishing the party well and calling for peaceful coexistence. He emphasized that he holds no grudges against members who choose to remain in the fold.
Looking ahead, the lawmaker revealed that he is consulting widely and weighing his options before deciding on his next political platform. “I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey… Finally, I will carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home. So help me God,” he concluded.
Jibrin, who carries the traditional title of Jarman Bebeji, played a key role in strengthening the NNPP’s presence in Kano politics, especially during the last electoral cycle. His departure is expected to send ripples across the state’s political landscape, with speculation rife about where his next political allegiance will lie.
