The Nigeria Police Force has intercepted two suspected gunrunners in Katsina State, recovering a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and over 1,295 rounds of live ammunition in a major breakthrough against arms trafficking.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects, Abdussalam Muhammed (25) and Aminu Mamman (23), both residents of Baure village in Safana Local Government Area, were arrested on September 1, 2025, at about 4:35 am.
They were intercepted by a police patrol team along the Ingawa–Karkarku road in Katsina following credible intelligence and swift tactical response by operatives.
A search of their vehicle, a blue Volkswagen Golf (Reg. No. RSH-528 BV), led to the recovery of:
One (1) General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG)
1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition
232 rounds of 7.62x69mm PKT ammunition
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arms and ammunition were being transported from Hadejia, Jigawa State, to Safana LGA in Katsina for distribution to criminal elements.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their gallantry and swift response, urging them to sustain the momentum. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks across the country.
“The public is enjoined to continue supporting the Force with timely and credible information that can aid in securing lives and property,” the statement added.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to trace the source and intended network of the recovered arms.
