The Osun State Muslim Community (OSMC), in partnership with the Osun State Government, has held the 1447AH Hijrah celebration.

The event was held at Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, on Saturday June 28, 2025.

The event featured an address by the President of OSMC, Alhaji Engr. Mustafa Olawuyi, who used the platform to commend the government and highlight critical issues affecting the state.

Delivering his speech, Alhaji Olawuyi stated, “We are grateful to Almighty Allah for granting us another opportunity to celebrate another new Hijrah year 1447 AH on the surface earth. We implore our Creator and Sustainer to make this new Hijrah year a source of everlasting blessing, peace, progress and development for this nation and in particular our own Osun State. Aameeeena,” he said.

The OSMC president also lauded the Osun State Governor, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, for his continuous support for Muslim community programmes.

Olawuyi, therefore, raised major concerns over the state of education in Osun.

He called attention to the acute shortage of teachers, particularly in primary and secondary schools, warning that this could hinder the development of the state.

“Education is the bedrock of development in any society… To aid rapid development of this State, giving sound education to our children must be a priority. We therefore appeal for urgent recruitment of teachers to salvage the situation in the State,” he urged.

On governance, the OSMC decried the ongoing crisis in local government administration across the state, describing it as a “comatose” system that has caused untold hardship for grassroots communities.

“Something urgent must be done to bring a quick STOP to this unfortunate situation… Osun people are suffering in silence because the political class feels the people don’t matter anymore,” he lamented.

Olawuyi also acknowledged the government’s efforts to restore peace in the crisis-ridden communities of Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin-Osun, while calling for a permanent resolution to the disputes to allow developmental projects to resume.

“We implore the three major towns to allow permanent peace to reign among them. Enough is enough,” he appealed.

Concluding his speech, he reminded the audience of the essence of Hijrah, urging personal and collective transformation.

“Hijrah teaches us to migrate from bad to good and to remember that Almighty Allah… will definitely reward each and every one of us in accordance with our deeds,” he emphasized.
