As hostilities between Iran and Israel entered their 11th day, China on Monday issued a strong appeal for restraint, warning of the potential global repercussions if the conflict continues to escalate.

Speaking at a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun urged both nations to step back from the brink. “The Chinese side urges the parties to the conflict to prevent the situation from escalating repeatedly, resolutely avoid the spillover of war, and return to the path of political resolution,” he stated.

China emphasized the critical importance of the Middle East and its surrounding waters to global trade, expressing concern that continued fighting could disrupt international commerce and further strain the global economy.

“China calls on the international community to make greater efforts to promote the de-escalation of the conflict and prevent regional instability from having a greater impact on global economic development,” Jiakun added.

Beijing’s call for calm comes amid growing international anxiety over the regional implications of the conflict, with fears mounting over its impact on energy markets, shipping lanes, and economic stability worldwide.
