AKAMARA, the radio anchor whose voice note alleging sinister practices during the Hajj pilgrimage recently went viral, has publicly denied the accusations and admitted that the controversial phone conversations were entirely staged.

The allegations, which accused Alhaji Owokomago of purportedly sending pilgrims from Owode Yewa to Hajj to collect their Ihram (Hiram) garments for ritualistic purposes, sparked outrage within the Muslim community across Ogun State and beyond.

However, during a reconciliation meeting convened by the Wakeelul Muslimeen of Yoruba Land, Edo, and Delta, Sheikh Iskeel Lawal Sugar, AKAMARA, as he is popularly known, confessed before key stakeholders that the viral voice notes were fabricated. He admitted that he “lied, begged, and attributed the viral voice note to being broke.”

The crucial meeting was held at the office of Sheikh Iskeel Lawal Sugar and witnessed the presence of notable Islamic leaders and stakeholders from Yewa Land, Owode Idiroko, including journalists and legal practitioners.

Among the dignitaries were the representative of the President of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State, the Chief Imam of Owode Yewa, the Ad-hoc Chairman of Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Board, Sheikh Ishaq Olorungbebe, and Sheikh Fasasi Akeukanwo, among others.

The clerics used the platform to send a strong warning to bloggers and media personalities, cautioning against the misuse of Islam for financial gain through monetization schemes. They declared that those found guilty of such acts should either “desist or be ready to go to jail.”

In a call for unity and forgiveness, the religious leaders also appealed to all Muslims, especially those from Owode Yewa and across Ogun State, urging them to forgive AKAMARA and continue to uphold the exemplary virtues of Islam.

The statement was officially signed by Hadj Lawal Abu Mordiyah, Admin, on 27th April 2025.
