“We Have Lost Another Icon”: Governor Makinde Pays Tribute to Late Oyo State Governor, Omololu Olunloyo

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed his sorrow over the passing of Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, the former governor of the state, who died at the age of 90.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan, Makinde referred to Olunloyo’s death as the loss of one of the most intellectual and cerebral administrators in both Oyo State and Nigeria.
Makinde shared his satisfaction that the state government had the opportunity to immortalize Olunloyo during his lifetime. He recalled that Ibadan Airport Road and the Leisure Park in the city had been named after Olunloyo to recognize his significant contributions to the state’s development. The late Olunloyo had witnessed this honor before his passing.
In his tribute, Governor Makinde extended his condolences to Olunloyo’s family, the people of Ibadanland, and the entire state. He noted the sadness of losing the renowned Mathematical expert and administrator just ahead of his 90th birthday, which was set to be celebrated on April 14, 2025.
Makinde reflected, “In Olunloyo, we have lost another icon. This time, we lost a highly cerebral and patriotic leader who served our great state at its early stages.”
He also expressed hope that the family would find the strength to bear the loss, while offering prayers for Olunloyo’s soul to rest in peace.
