Grand Mosque sets record with 4.2 million worshippers on Laylat Al-Qadr

Millions of Muslims from across the world gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah for the 27th night of Ramadan, seeking Laylat Al-Qadr—the most sacred night in Islam.
In an unprecedented record, over 4.2 million worshippers performed Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers at the Grand Mosque on Wednesday night, as reported by Al-Ekhbariya.
Laylat Al-Qadr, described in the Qur’an as being better than a thousand months, is believed to fall within the last 10 days of Ramadan, with many regarding the 27th night as its most probable occurrence.
To accommodate the overwhelming number of worshippers, authorities activated an extensive operational plan, ensuring that the Mataf (circumambulation area) could handle up to 107,000 pilgrims per hour.
Additional measures included the deployment of 428 escalators, 28 elevators, and 1,300 speakers as part of an advanced audio system. Cooling systems were also reinforced, providing up to 90,000 tons of cooling power to maintain a comfortable environment inside the mosque.
Meanwhile, the Makkah Health Affairs Department expanded its medical services, with specialized medical centers stationed inside the Grand Mosque and its courtyards to cater to the needs of the worshippers.
