Ex-INEC Chair Attahiru Jega bags presidential appointment

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has been appointed as a Special Adviser by President Bola Tinubu.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the president’s spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
The appointment aims to drive sustainable progress in Nigeria’s livestock sector and bolster national development initiatives. Jega, who previously co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu, played a key role in delivering comprehensive recommendations for livestock sector reforms. One of the committee’s major proposals was the creation of a dedicated livestock ministry to oversee sectoral improvements.
A distinguished academic and administrator, Jega, 68, is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano.
He was INEC chairman from 2010 to 2015, overseeing Nigeria’s historic 2015 general elections.
The president emphasized that Jega’s appointment would reinforce the gains achieved by the Presidential Livestock Committee and sustain momentum for the ongoing reforms.
