Amid the US decision to pause aid to Kyiv, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continued cooperation with Washington.

Speaking at a news conference, Shmyhal stressed Ukraine’s determination to work through diplomatic and other available channels to ensure that both nations “continue fighting for lasting peace.” Acknowledging the significance of US military aid, he stressed that American support has been instrumental in saving thousands of Ukrainian lives.

While advocating for a peace agreement, Shmyhal insisted that it must be on “Ukraine’s terms… as a victim” and include a “punishment” for Russia. His remarks reflect Kyiv’s stance that any resolution must address the consequences of Moscow’s actions.

Shmyhal also reiterated Ukraine’s readiness to sign a mineral agreement that would grant the US access to the country’s rare earth deposits, a deal seen as strategically important for both nations.

Expressing gratitude, he acknowledged America’s unwavering support over the past three years and extended appreciation to European allies.

He specifically praised European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s recently announced defence funding plans, calling them “an important first step” in strengthening Europe’s backing of Ukraine.
